This fall, I will be a bridesmaid for the eleventh time and an “usher-ette” twice. If playing a role in weddings was an actual job, I might be up for a promotion and raise. Regardless of how many bridesmaid dresses are stuffed in the back of my closet with color-coordinated shoes, Im honored I’ve been able to support my friends as they walked down the aisle. In fact, Im really looking forward to the next wedding because it will bring a brand-new bridesmaid experience. Standing among the girls in updos and heels will be a close friend in a suit and tie, Rodelio Aglibot. This will be his second time in a bridal party, and I wouldnt be surprised if there are more to come. In fact, he believes every bride should have a special man by her side at the altarand not just the groom.

The gay wedding landscape has changed dramatically since you published the first edition of The Essential Guide for Gay & Lesbian Weddings in 1994 the very first wedding planning guide of its kind, I might add! Are you surprised that gay marriage is now legal is so many states ?

Paul: Honestly? I never thought I would see such an unfazed attitude towards gay folk. I grew up believing that gay culture had its own sense of humor and particular style. It amazes me that our style and humor have become so mainstream, like John Waters of Pink Flamingos fame directing Hollywood movies or the popularity of Will & Grace.
