No matter what your theme, love and romance should permeate your wedding, transporting all to a place like, you know, over the rainbow. This song makes mention of wishing upon a star and bluebirds, elements to possibly integrate with use of a rainbow. We all know how much flowers add to the mood and decor. Roses and rose petals definitely add to the romantic theme. Cherry blossom scents are out of this world. Here are 12 additional elements to help make sure your wedding says “love is in the air”.

1) Timing

To be sure, though a challenging climate may bring out the importance of what is happening – your union in love – plan to have as much cooperation from the environment as possible. Spring symbolizes new life so April and May weddings are very popular. How do you feel on Friday at 4pm? Like you might want to flop down on your bed for an hour? A lot of people do. To me the ideal time is 11am to 1pm., preferably on a Sunday when many attend religious services or at least rest. This gives the day a special ambiance.

2) The Right Place

Small chapels can be especially intimate. I’ve seen many small romantic weddings take place in Our Lady of La Leche Chapel in St. Augustine, Florida. To get ideas, also have a look at chapelatthepark.com, a chapel in the woods of Tennessee. Be sure to inspect your venue if possible. Gardens and park scenes can be warm venues. And don’t overlook the elegance of a castle venue with a period antique reception hall. If the ceremony must be at church plan on one of these for reception or photo ops.

3) Music

Romantic does not have to be expensive. Find a vocalist or harpist to perform to add a special touch.

4) Your Getaway

Maybe your own car is best. Consider this might be a time for you to enjoy a little time to yourself – your first few moments alone officially as a couple.

5) Candles and Lights

Candles add so much to the ambiance try to get in as many as you can without creating a fire hazard. Scented candles, votive candles, large small, make them fit into your wedding and reception. Have strings of white lights put up all around.

6) Special items

These are things that have special significance to the bride or the groom. Maybe an old hat he wore on your first date, maybe some ducks you both were watching when he proposed…Incorporate them into the reception scene.

7) Cake Cutting

Be sure this is a special event with the photographer on scene as you both share the cutting. Your favorite song might play or a drum roll, as the bride places a fondant rose on the groom’s tongue…

Just the Two of You

Have your own candle lit table to sit at.

9) Your First Dance

The first couple’s dance is always significant -make it memorable, perhaps start it in your mother’s arms and let the groom cut in.

10) Honor the Parents

You can deepen the bonds of family love by asking the parents (sometime before) their favorite songs or ones that have significance to them as a couple. It may happen that there is something other than music that works here.

11) Final Dance

Your last dance might be slow and dreamlike. The one to send you off into the evening. Turn the lights low and let this be how your guests remember you.

12) Sunset Photos

Try to get in some sunset photos of yourselves. Sunsets over water are almost always spectacular, whether it be the ocean, a lake or even marshlands. Work them in when you can..day before, day of, or some day after.
