Walking Down The Aisle Isn’t Always Easy

Every day of the year there’s a bride who’s taking a walk down the aisle in some church or at some outdoor ceremony. For as many times we’ve seen this happen, the truth is that this short walk for brides isn’t always as easy as it seems it should be.
One reason those who perform the ceremonies like to have a quick run through of the wedding service is to try to instruct everyone how to walk down the aisle once the wedding begins. It’s fairly easy for the men to know what to do, and for most bridesmaids the process goes fairly well. But for brides, there are just so many things that can get in the way.
For instance, wedding dresses can be really long in both the front and back. The back of a long wedding dress has many opportunities to get caught up on something and yank the bride back, causing her to stumble or fall. The front of a wedding dress might be long in and of itself, and it could either catch onto something or not flow properly and fold back under a bride’s foot, causing her to fall.
Something else that could happen is having a bride get caught up in an aisle runner, or even tripping over the upraised part of the runner that’s at the back of the church. Hardly anyone looks down at that thing, and one of two things could happen. One, someone forgets to remove the roller that was used to roll it out and the bride could either step on it or trip. Two, the bride’s dress starts to bunch up the runner, which in turn creates a nice little recipe for disaster.
Another thing about some runners is that they can be slippery. Have a flower girl toss some flower petals down on a slippery runner and a bride with new shoes could easily hit one of those things and go flying. And there’s nothing her poor father, or whomever else is around, can do to help her out.
Disaster can happen at almost any time. That’s why it behooves the bride to try to stay as calm as possible on her wedding day and to take her time walking deliberately down the aisle. Try to set the stage up front for safety instead of too much glitz and glam as it pertains to where you’re going to be walking. And, if you decide to do what this bride and groom did for their wedding, make sure you plan ahead because every wedding dress and every aisle isn’t meant for this sort of thing. But they certainly had a lot of fun!
