I guarantee that todays extra-amazing proposal story is going to make you weak in the knees!

Writes Chavonne:

Otilio and I met 6 or so years ago in a creative writing class at Rutgers University. He had a girlfriend and a crush on me. I had a toddler and didnt notice. But over a year (and, ahem, a break-up) later we started talking on IM and realized we had a lot in common. He eventually asked me to see movie (My Super Ex-Girlfriend!) and weve been together ever since.

Otilio and I never got engaged. We sort of approached getting married in a practical way. We were living together, raising my child, sharing expenses and figured, Why not make it legal? So one day we took off of work, drove to get our marriage license, and sent everyone a text that we were going to get married. Romantic, huh?

Our original plan was to get married by a justice of the peace, but after I sent the text my grandmother strongly encouraged us to have a wedding. It was sort of a rush job though, and everything that could go wrong did: My dress didnt fit. My hair stylist didnt show. We forgot centerpieces. The wrong song played when I walked down the aisle. The officiant bungled the ceremonythe list goes on (and on and on). Still we had made it official, which was all that mattered.

But after the wedding we wound up having some regrets. Its smart to approach things sensibly, but we took all the sparkle out of the occasion by making it just another checkpoint in our lives.

It has always bothered Otilio a bit that he never got his chance to plan a proposal and sit on his nerves while he anticipated my answer. And it also made me a little sadI didnt realize how special a moment like that could be!

Well, just two weeks ago, Otilio and I were on vacation in Costa Rica.

We went down to the water to check out a waterfall, then Otilio suggested we go behind the waterfall, which made me a little nervous! (Deep water! Slippery rocks!)

When we made it behind the waterfallwhich was so lovely!Otilio asked me to take a picture of him on a rock that was a bit higher up.

While he climbed, I tried to keep my balance and move in a bit closer. Once I turned to face him I saw that he was down on one knee with a jewelry box in his hand. I saw earrings*my engagement earringsand stood there completely surprised as he asked me to marry him. Of course, through all the tears, I said yes!

* Why earrings? Well, I dont wear rings. I think theyre seriously irritating. The only time I wore my wedding band was during the ceremony. Otilio has always known that if he were ever to propose, I wanted engagement earrings instead of a ring. I wanted something I would actually wear. And thats just what I got!

How sweet is that story?! And how gorgeous are those earrings? Would you like a surprise vacation proposal?
