Jesse James and Kat Von D have called off their engagement and broken up.

Jesse told People: Im so sad because I really love her. The distance between us was just too much.

Kat continues to shoot her reality show, LA Ink, in Los Angeles, while Jesse lives outside of Austin, Texas, with his children, Chandler, 16, Jesse Jr., 14, and Sunny, 7.

The two were engaged in January and had been planning a summer wedding.

Kat confirmed the split on : I am no longer w Jesse and out of respect for him, his family and myself, thats all the info Id like to share. Thanks for respecting that.

At the start of 2011, Jesse told People: 2010 was actually the best year of my life because I fell in love with my best friend. An amazing woman who stood behind me when the world turned their backs. I have never met anyone so kind and loving and committed to making the world a better place every day. My love for her is beyond description. So honored that she said yes.
